About us
At Window Seater, we believe there are amazing stories everywhere, even on the most common, day-to-day journeys – but too often they’re forgotten or go unnoticed.
As travellers, we want to build better awareness and connections to the people, history and cultures through which we pass.
We believe a new approach to storytelling – timely, engaging, entertaining, and well researched audio stories, with local voices at their heart – can better connect us to the world and its people.
Our journey
The fire was lit when we took a train trip across France, fortuitously sitting in a window seat next to a friendly local who told us stories of the passing towns and places – and wanting to hear more of the same on future journeys!
At first we experimented with the content and geolocation technology on tourist lines in Thailand and then in 2020 we had a big breakthrough when we were selected by Transport for Wales to take part in their Innovation Lab programme.
In 2021 Window Seater was awarded funding by the Department for Transport and Innovate UK through their ‘First of a Kind’ innovation competition, partnering with Community Rail Network to draw on local stories from communities around the UK.
Window Seater has since delivered guides for rail and ferry organisations, including Transport for Wales, Grand Central, National Rail, Wightlink ferries and a children’s guide for LNER.
